IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE APPLYING


At this time, Nunavut Arctic College is not accepting Non-Nunavut Residents and International Applicants.

  • International Applicant is a citizen of another country and does not have permanent residency status in Canada. Nunavut Arctic College is a Canadian institution that is not designated to host international students. Therefore, Nunavut Arctic College cannot accept international applicants.

  • Non-Nunavut resident is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada who is not considered as a Nunavut Resident. As Nunavut's only post secondary institution, Nunavut Arctic College strives to ensure Nunavut residents have access to learning within the territory.  As each College program has limited space, at this time, Nunavut Arctic College is not accepting applications from Non-Nunavut Residents. 

  • Nunavut resident is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada who is residing in Nunavut for a minimum of one year at the time of application. If you are applying as a Nunavut resident, you must be able to provide a Proof of Residency such as Nunavut Health Card or Nunavut Driver’s Licence.

    • Beneficiaries under the Nunavut Land Claim Agreement do not need to provide a Proof of Residency.

English Language Proficiency Requirement

  • Depending on the program and location, English may be the main language of instruction at Nunavut Arctic College. Students must have the level of ability in English that allows them to participate fully in aspects of course work.

  • Inuit Studies and Interpreter / Translator Programs require an approved level of Inuktitut speaking and writing skills to be accepted into the programs.

  • Applicants who received their formal education in a language other than English will be required to submit proof of English language proficiency by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Canadian Academic English Test (CAEL).


BEFORE YOU APPLY


  • Browse the PROGRAMS section of the college website to find about the college programs offered at Nunavut Arctic College.

  • Some programs are only offered in selected communities. Please check our PROGRAM OFFERINGS to see the list of communities where each of the programs are offered, as well as the schedule of programs. Note that there may be programs that are currently offered but are not admitting new students. The program/s will be indicated with “not open for admission”.

  • Previous students who have outstanding balance with Nunavut Arctic College may apply but will not be considered for admission until such time that all accounts are paid in full.

  • You must provide a valid email address where we could contact you. The email address you provide will be used to deliver important information about your application.

  • When filling out the application, you will be asked to provide information about your high school and all post-secondary studies. You should have this information ready.

  • Please note that you will NOT be able to go on to the next section of the application unless the required information is provided. You have the option to save and resume your application later should you require more time to complete your application.

  • If you choose to complete the application by hand, you may download the application form here, print and complete all fields, and submit your application along with the documents required by the program of your choice. Please note that only complete applications will be reviewed.

Before proceeding with the application, you must gather all the documents required by the program of your choice. You will be prompted to upload the documents at the end of this process in order to submit your application. There are various acceptable formats such as .doc, .pdf, .jpg (picture from your phone), and .png for which you may upload your documents.

Please note that admission requirements may vary by program. To find out the admission requirements for a program, please visit the PROGRAMS section of the college website. Any additional documents specific to the program you're applying for such as: Immunization Record, current Resume, and Portfolio could be emailed to nunatta@arcticcollege.ca

Below is a list of common documents required for admission;

High School and Post Secondary Transcripts

Applicants with high school credits and post-secondary education must arrange with the school(s) at which they studied to have their Official High School Transcript and Official Post-Secondary Transcript(s) mailed to the Registrar of Nunavut Arctic College.

If applicants are currently in Grade 12, they can submit a Validation Statement produced by the school. They should also arrange to have their official high school transcripts sent after June exams from their school. The official transcripts must be addressed to the Registrar. Please see the Mailing Address section at the bottom of the page.

Applicants who have attended a school in Nunavut can request their High School Transcript here.

The application process cannot be completed until appropriate transcripts have been received.

Letter of Intent

A Letter of Intent is a cover letter that will support your application. The letter should focus on who you are and should explain why you are interested in the program you have chosen.

Reference Letters

A reference letter provides information about the applicant from an outside source, providing details about qualifications, skills, traits, and abilities, as well as listing achievements, and giving a somewhat personal perspective of the applicant. Applicants are required at least two (2) reference letters to be submitted with their application. However, some programs require three (3) letter. Please review the admission requirements of the program of your choice.

People such as an adult educator, school principal, teachers or former and/or current employers are all suitable references. Friends, family members are not acceptable referees.

Proof of Sponsorship

Applicants are responsible for applying for funding. If you have been approved for funding, please provide a Proof of Sponsorship from your funder/s. To apply for funding, see Financial Assistance on the following section.

Assessments

Applicants who do not meet the academic program admission requirements will be required to write a educational assessment test(s).

Interview

Some programs require an interview. Applicants will be interviewed in person or by telephone.

Admission will only be considered when testing and/or interviews have been completed as required for program admission.

Housing Application

All applicants are welcome to apply for housing should you need to attend school away from home. Only applicants who are accepted into a program will be considered. Please note that each campus has a limited amount of housing, therefore housing is not always guaranteed. You may fill out the Housing Application form and submit the form along with your application.

Financial Assistance

Application Deadline

Applications will be accepted until all program spots are filled. The College is committed to keeping all potential and interested students updated on application deadlines, and any program updates.

  • We appreciate these are uncertain times, but the College encourages anyone interested in applying to the College to do so.

  • For this time, the College will be accepting interim documents, such as transcripts, until official documents are provided.

  • The College continues to engage with important partners, such as student funders, to ensure that information being provided to applicants are clear and accurate.

AFTER YOU APPLY - NEXT STEPS


Acknowledgement of Receipt and Follow-Up

You will receive a letter to acknowledge that your application has been received. This letter will identify any additional information or documentation that may be required. You will be contacted if an interview is needed. Some programs require interviews. Others do not.

Letter of Acceptance

Once the College has obtained all the necessary documents and results of required assessments or interviews, and the program managers have completed the selection process, you will be contacted to let you know that you have:

a) Been accepted, with information on how to proceed with registration; or

b) Not been accepted, but recommended for Nunavut Arctic College basic education or preparatory courses; or

c) Not been accepted, with an explanation.

Course Registration

Registration in credit courses takes place in person after you have been accepted.  Students accepted into programs will be given course registration instructions.
