Nunavut Arctic College celebrates World Teachers’ Day and recognizes educators across Nunavut
Iqaluit, Nunavut (October 5, 2026) – This World Teachers’ Day, Nunavut Arctic College is proud to recognize the teachers across Nunavut who help shape strong communities, support student success, and keep language and culture thriving in classrooms and communities every day.
We’re also celebrating the next generation of Nunavut educators through the Nunavut Teacher Education Program (NTEP)! NTEP is a made-in-Nunavut pathway that helps Inuit and Nunavummiut become certified teachers while staying connected to home, community, and culture.
NTEP prepares future educators for the realities of teaching in Nunavut while building on the strengths of Inuit knowledge, language, and community leadership. Graduates go on to teach in communities throughout the territory, bringing lived experience, local understanding, and a lasting commitment to Nunavut students and schools.
“When our children go into their classrooms to learn in Nunavut, it is important that they see people who reflect them, their language, and culture. NTEP graduates are these people, this reflection of people from their community helps them see themselves in learning.” - Minister David Akeeagok.
“NTEP is important because it trains Nunavummiut to be teachers in Nunavut who are immersed in Inuit language and culture, reflecting the people in our communities.” -Kaviq Kaluraq, Vice-President, Nunavut Arctic College
The NTEP Bachelor of Education is designed to reflect Nunavut’s unique educational needs and contexts. The Primary/Elementary program combines education and non-education courses, with a strong focus on Inuktut language and culture. It prepares graduates to become skilled, innovative educators who advance student success and provide leadership in schools and communities across the territory.
On October 5, Nunavut Arctic College invites Nunavummiut to thank a teacher who has made a difference in their lives and to encourage those considering a career in education to explore NTEP.
A career in teaching offers the opportunity to lead, inspire, and make a meaningful difference in Nunavut. Learn more about the Nunavut Teacher Education Program at Education — Nunavut Arctic College.
